F**K Hollywood... Tell Your Own Story

We can go toe to toe in the middle of the cell
Fucking with me because I'm a teenager with a little bit of gold and a pager
Searching my car looking for the product
Thinking every n***a selling narcotics

"Fuck the Police" NWA ( Niggaz With Attitude) Ice Cube Verse

NWA ( Niggaz With Attitude) is an very influential rap group whose origins began in Compton, California they were active for short period of time 1986-1991, although they made an impact in music and popular culture. The original members were Ice Cube, Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Mc Ren, and Eazy E. NWA's debut album served as a catalyst for the genre known as " Gangsta Rap." As their popularity increased the group sparked controversy for telling vivid stories about life in Compton and racial tensions with the LAPD ( Los Angeles Police Department). The group was often accused of glorifying violence, drugs, and being misogynist.

For many years music fans wanted to know more about the story of NWA and 28 years after the formation of NWA a biopic was well over due. Although as usual Hollywood has continued to enhance the dysfunctional relationship between aesthetics  and African Americans. The casting call for the film was extremely racist at first I thought the biopic would be a great idea since F. Gary Gray would be the director he teamed up with Ice Cube on the Friday franchise; but then again it sounded too good to be true.

What About the Casting Call? The casting agency has a grade rating system and the expectations were deployarable. This was the casting call directions.

A Girls: Hottest girls must have real hair, no extensions, very classy looking, great bodies. You can be Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, or Mixed Race. Ages 18-30.

B Girls: Fine girls, long natural hair, really nice bodies, small waists, nice hips. You should be light-skinned ( Beyoncé) is a prototype here. Ages 18-30

C Girls: These girls are African American girls, medium to light-skinned with a weave. Ages 18-30.

Toni's Thoughts: Recently the casting company released an official apology although the damage is already done. As I have stated before racism is alive and rampant and has become so normalized with this millennial generation. Although this casting company and Holly wood was extremely overt with its demands and standards of beauty. I am highly disappointed to know this has occurred although I am not surprised. I will not be supporting this film when it comes to the big screen. Once again America's "Great Chain of Being" a system of aesthetics established during the 18th century remains a vital force in 21st century. According to the "Great Chain of Being" the White woman represents true womanhood and other races of women fall beneath, especially the Black woman. This casting call used racism and colorism and issue that still plagues the African American community. NWA is a very important group the legacy of hip hop because their music was apart of its "Golden Age/Era" it just annoys me that once again Black people are not telling their own story. John Singleton should have been a candidate to make this film.
