Beauty is Her Name
On November 15, 2018 model and actress Kim Porter was found dead in her home. According to family and friends she experienced flu like symptoms for several weeks. Kim contacted her doctors to inform them that she still was not feeling well. They did not take her concerns serious. I have noticed that many media outlets have referred to Kim as Sean "Diddy" Combs ex-girlfriend. Yes, she is the ex-girlfriend of the entertainment mogul and they had three beautiful children Christian, D'Lila Star, and Jessie James. However, Kim was more than an ex-girlfriend she was a model, actress, and producer prior to and after her relationship with Diddy. I prefer to call him Puffy or Puff Daddy because I'm a 90s baby.
Kim was born and raised in Columbus, GA after graduating from high school in 1988 she relocated to Atlanta, GA. Kim began her modeling career which was successful. Additionally, she transitioned into acting having small roles in the film "The Brothers," VH1's "Single Ladies," and the television series "Wicked Wicked Games." Most people don't know Kim was the inspiration behind Jodeci's 1991 debut single "Forever My Lady." Kim dated and was briefly married to R&B singer Al B. Sure!
During an episode of TV One's Unsung Al B. Sure! and Kim discussed the story behind the song. The members of Jodeci were struggling to put the ballad together and Al B. Sure! wrote the lyrics. At the time Kim was pregnant with their son Quincy. The picture below is Al B. Sure! holding their son Quincy.
In 1994 Kim began dating Sean "Diddy" Combs. They met when he was an A&R executive for Uptown Records. Diddy expanded on what he thought about Kim when he first met her.
"The first time I saw her, she was at the studio with her ex-boyfriend," Combs said in a 2006 Essence magazine interview. "I wasn't trying to holler at her or anything, but I was admiring her---her lips, her eyes, her mouth, her shape, her energy---and thinking, "I wish I had a girl like that."
Kim and Combs relationship ended in 2007 but they remained cordial. They maintained a friendship and celebrated milestones with their children. Kim was laid to rest in her hometown Columbus, GA on November 24, 2018. As a kid I remember seeing Kim on the cover of magazines and in music videos. In my personal opinion her passing marks the end of an era unfortunately. Kim was in the modeling world when natural beauty was still vibrant and acceptable. Now we live in an era of plastics and Instagram models. My heart and condolences go to the family and friends of Kim Porter especially her children. She will be missed rest in power.
