Did T.I.P. Have Too Much Dip on the Chip?
"They say the coolest playas and foulest heart breakers in the world, God gets us back, he makes us have precious little girls." Nas "Daughters"
In a recent interview on the podcast "Ladies Like Us" rapper, actor, and businessman T.I. was asked how he deals with his daughter, Deyjah when it comes to discussing "sexual encounters." His response called an uproar all over social media. I believe some of it was legitimate criticism and some of it was overboard.
What Did He Say? "So we'll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk, and the doctor's maintaining a high level of professionalism. He's like, "You know, sire, I have to in order to share information I'm like, "Deyjah, they want me to know? See, doc? No problem. And so then they come and say 'Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken, like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding, and just other forms of athletic physical activity, so I say, "Look doc, she don't ride nor horses, she don't ride, no bike, she don't play no sports. Just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously."
Words from the critics:
"The double standard of the patriarchy." Top Chef, host Padma Lakshml
Feminist and journalist Gloria Steinem argued that the courts should get involved. She also said that he is violating her human rights.
Toni's Thoughts: As a daughter I understand that T.I. wants to protect his daughter's virtue and safety. However, I believe it was inappropriate to share this information to the public and she is now 18 years old. With that being said this could be a violation of HIPPA rights. It is no secret that T.I. is a doting father of seven children we watched them grow up on the VH1 reality show Family Hustle. As I said before I understand why he wants to protect his daughter. However, she is a young adult that is currently in college finding herself, living on a new journey, etc. Even though I am not a parent yet I do believe that T.I. should still guide his daughter and protect her but do everything within reason. She's currently a freshmen in college I can't imagine how embarrassed she must be right now. Ten years ago I was a freshmen in college I would be pissed at my father for disclosing that to the public. I also do believe that is hypocritical that he supports his teenage son being sexually active who is younger than Deyjah. On the other hand I believe some of the criticism towards T.I. is coming from toxic feminist. I mean Gloria Steinem is toxic I don't care what anyone says. She was instrumental in destroying the Black American family dynamic in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She is not the sole factor but she did play a part. I don't respect her or anything she has to say. Some media outlets are insinuating that he has an incest dynamic with his daughter. Additionally, some women are arguing that he should not be involved in any aspect of his daughter's life. I believe that is utterly ridiculous. He loves his daughter and I am sure he would move mountains to keep her out of her harm's way. Last but not least he probably does not want her to become a promiscuous woman. I just hope both parties are able to move past this moment and still maintain a strong bond. I believe his heart is in right the place theoretically but the execution and optics are over stepping some boundaries.
