Nothing New

"Now as to the Negroes! I entirely agree with you that as a race and in the mass they are altogether inferior to the white." President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, letter to Novelist Owen Wister, 1906

" I advance as a suspicion only that the blacks are inferior suspicion to whites both in mind and body never yet could I find a black had uttered a thought above the level of a plain narration...... ever saw an elementary tract of painting or sculpture."
   President Thomas Jefferson

"So interesting to see "Progressive" Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all, now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth how our government is to be run). Why don't they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can't leave fast enough. I'm sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!"

Although President Trump did not directly name the four women in the photo above known as "The Squad." But everyone knew what he was implying. The women from the photo are freshmen congresswomen. Since Donald Trump has made these statements many people are asserting that he is the most racist President in our nation's history. The image below describes my reaction each time  someone makes that argument about Trump.

Diahann Carroll as the iconic Dominique Deveraux
Toni's Thoughts: The image of Ms. Carroll reflects my reaction every time I hear and see people say that Donald Trump is the most racist man we have had in the Oval Office. I am not a Trump supporter. I am making that clear now but I am conservative about certain things socially and politically. One thing I have noticed about Donald Trump he assumes power. Popularity is not important to him and truth be told when an individual assumes power, popularity is not essential. An individual that seeks popularity goes out of his or her way to say all the things people want to hear and appease them. Donald Trump gives zero fucks. But my back to my point about Donald Trump he is not the most racist President this country has seen. However, he is very open about his beliefs regarding race. I believe that we had gone through an era when racism was somewhat subtle emphasis on somewhat subtle. Donald Trump is not responsible for racism in modern America but he has allowed people to be more honest about their feelings and ideologies. I posted the quotes from two past Presidents to illustrate my point. As a Black American my lineage in this country is both unique and complex. I am the descendant of enslaved Africans in America. My people have endured terrorism and bigotry. Our presence is a reminder of America's original sins. I will say we remain resilient and exceptionable. It offends me to hear people say that Donald Trump is the most racist President in the history of the United States. That assertion is ridiculous because it erases the truth. Let's be clear it is no secret that Donald Trump's family enforced racist rules against Black Americans in New York City when they tried to live in their apartment buildings. We know Donald Trump's role in the infamous Central Park 5 tragedy but he was not the only person that contributed to the demise of the lives of those teenagers who are now grown men.
