Ruby Dee and Sidney Poitier in A Raisin in the Sun

"The kind of beauty I want most is the hard-to-get kind that comes from within strength, courage, dignity." Ruby Dee
Ruby Dee and husband Ossie Davis

I am sad to say that today the one and only Ruby Dee has passed away at the age of 91. She died of natural causes in her home. We mourn the loss of an incredible mother, grandmother, actress, screenwriter, poet, playwright, and activist. She is best known for her roles in the film The Jackie Robinson Story, A Raisin in the Sun and American Gangster, although her career spanned for decades. She became an active figure in Civil Rights Movement and developed a bond with Dr. King and Malcolm X. Ruby Dee was educated woman she earned a degree in Spanish and French while attending Hunter College and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. My favorite films starring Ruby Dee are Do the Right Thing and American Gangster. Rest in peace we love you.
